Vacuum Lifting Devices

Note: This section is to be read in conjunction with:


Vacuum lifting device must be operated, inspected and maintained in accordance with AS 4991 section 5.2 and the manufacturer’s specification.


R Prior to use of a vacuum lifting device on MPX projects, the device must have the following documentation received and verified:

  • NSW, QLD, VIC- Completed plant inspection checklist and site registration
  • Plant risk assessment
  • Plant maintenance records
  • Support structure of the vacuum pads are designed in accordance with AS 4991 or EN13155
  • NSW and QLD A Vacuum Lifting Device Checklist.


S A SWMS must be developed for vacuum lifting equipment operations and submitted to MPX for review.


People undertaking vacuum lifting work must be inducted into the SWMS and trained in its use. Refer Training and Competency Schedule


R Prior to use, vacuum lifting equipment must be inspected by a Competent Person and at intervals as specified by the manufacturer.


Vacuum lifters are required:

  • To be complaint with EN13155 incorporating a 24V power supply i.e. 2x 12V batteries
  • To have dual vacuum circuits downstream of the vacuum pump/pumps
  • To have operable visual and audible alarms to inform the operator of deviations from target state of batteries / suction

Vacuum lifting systems must be clearly marked with the following information:

  • Identification number.
  • Model, where applicable.
  • Tare mass of equipment
  • Date of manufacture
  • Working load limit/rated capacity.
  • WLL/rated capacities for each configuration


Vacuum lifting devices must not be operated in the rain, frosty or in windy conditions.
