Housekeeping

Operational

  • Specific housekeeping requirements are described within each section of this manual.
  • Access ways must be kept clear at all times.
  • Roadways and verges are kept free of debris and building materials.
  • Where a chute is used for the removal of waste from the first / subsequent storeys, the chute must discharge into a bin protected by a fully sheeted fence extending at least 2 m high.
  • Waste reciprocals or marked areas for the purpose of placing debris must be provided.
  • Site signs must be kept clean and legible.
  • Working areas must be clear of unwanted materials as the job/task progresses and on completion.
  • Protruding steel reinforcement bars and star pickets must be capped or similar.
  • Guarding and barricading must be maintained around unsafe working areas or hazards.
  • Swarf, sawdust and off cuts of materials must be cleaned up regularly and at least at the end of each shift.
  • Access to electrical boxes, switchboards, firefighting appliances or emergency and first aid facilities / equipment must not be obstructed.
  • Metal bins should be provided in amenities.


Tools and Equipment

  • Store and secure all tools as soon as practicable after use.
  • Lead stands/ insulated hooks must be used to support electrical extension leads.
  • Damaged, faulty or inoperable tools must be tagged out and removed from the workplace.

 

Materials

  • Nails and other fixings must be removed from used timber, steel and other building materials at the time of deconstruction/demolition.
  • Materials must be stored and stacked in an orderly and stable manner and be protected from the effects of wind rain etc.

 

Substances and Dangerous Goods

  • Spillages must be cleaned up immediately and substance disposed of, in accordance with the applicable SDS requirements.
  • Flammable liquids must be stored in closed containers in designated storage areas in accordance with SDS requirements.

 

Amenities

 

  • Toilets and washrooms must be cleaned regularly and kept sanitary.
  • Crib rooms must be cleaned regularly and kept free of waste, used paper and used containers.
  • All food leftovers newspapers etc. must be placed in the bins provided: bins must have a lid.
  • Display of pornography is strictly prohibited in all areas
