Portable Electrical Equipment

Operational


Portable electrical equipment must:

  • Be in serviceable condition
  • Have moulded, nonrewireable or transparent type plugs
  • Not be used in damp or wet conditions unless they are specifically designed for use in such conditions


R Be inspected daily, tested and tagged every 3 months test records must be kept on site, refer to:


R Portable socket assembly RCD’s must be tested for operation daily prior to use and tested every 3 months.


Portable socket outlet assemblies must:

  • Incorporate overload protection and RCD protection
  • Be of robust construction
  • Have extended sides or covers over the outlets
  • Have a degree of protection appropriate for the environment (IP33 as a minimum)
  • Incorporate a heavy duty flexible cord no more than 2m long.


Portable electrical equipment must not be plugged into domestic power boards, adaptors or double adaptors or temporary lighting outlets.


All electrically energised power tools must be used in conjunction with RCDs.


Portable generators must be fitted with RCD protection, inspected daily, tested and tagged 3 months, refer to:
